Son of Spot – Chris Hollywood
----My final step in finishing the Moondog story was to travel to Osceola, AR to the
building that Spot made famous. The building sits almost hid in corner of businesses.
After you drive around to the building, the signs lets you know that not only do they run
an auction in this building, but every Friday night is Mid Southern Championship
Wrestling. The last time I was here the sign said, “Moondog Championship Wrestling.”
During a dispute with “Big Daddy” LaFonce [LaFonce Latham] that ended peaceful as
LaFonce took over full control of MCW with renaming the promotion and Larry Booker
leaving to move to Dyersburg.
----As I walked into the building, I got that feeling that you always get when you walk into
a GREAT wrestling arena. Come on guys – give me a break here. You know what I am
talking about. If you don’t, then you have never been to an arena that actually means
something. The arena seats maybe 250 at the max. The main seatng is wooden
bleachers. Another section [where I sat] is old movie theater seats and very
comfortable. They charge only $6 for adults and $5 for children. Gimmick table is set up
along with a full concession stand.
----The first familiar face I seen was Renita aka Auburn Thunder. For those that don’t
know, she is pregnant again and as pretty as ever. Next face was Kilo, who gave me a
big hug. Kilo was part of the success of my promotion when I ran shows. A good
worker. Kilo took me thru the dressing to outside where Chris Booker aka Hollywood was
standing among more than a few workers that I knew and one that I didn’t.
----This was my first time at a face to face meeting with Hollywood. I have talked with a
few times on the phone, but this was our first meeting. You know how you talk with
someone on the phone and know a lot about them without ever really seeing them??
You get this perception that most of the time is not true. Well, for some reason, if you
are the son of Moondog Spot, you are not supposed to look like Chris does. LOL You
are suppose to have long hair, a beard and a bunch of scars on your forehead. Wrong.
As I shook his hand for the first time, it was a shock that this tan muscled guy with a little
bit of hair was the son of Spot.
----“I always wanted to do my own thing. My dad respected me for that.” Chris is a 360
degrees turn from the Moondog gimmick. He started in this biz in 1999 without actually
being trained. “I had it in my blood. I told my Dad that I wanted to be a wrestler on
Sunday and he started me on Friday night.” Chris grew up in this business and was one
of those kids that you seen that helped set up the ring and then wrestle after the got it
up. He would always listen and watch. It might sound egotistical to some, but Chris says,
“I could watch someone do a move and just learn from that. I would try it until I got it. It
just seems to come easy to me.”
