You Don’t Spit In The Wind, You Don’t Pull On Superman’s Cape
and You Don’t Mess with The Moondog Legend!!!  Chapter 1

----On November 29, 2003 Memphis Legend Moondog Spot [Larry Booker] died of a
massive heart attack in the ring in a 4-way Concession brawl bout that featured “Rock ‘n’
Roll Express ; Dustin Starr/Simon Reed [Kryponite then] and Money Mike/Alan Steel.
Spot was teaming with a new Moondog Puppy Love [and I believe he later went as Rex]
when Ricky Morton grabbed Dustin Starr to say, “We got to go to the finish, something is
wrong with Larry!!”  As Starr told the story you could tell he had told it many times.  “I
have never seen anyone be rushed so quick from the ring to the back.  They put him on
a stretcher and just ran with it to the back!  It was so crazy!!  Larry’s youngest son was in
crowd just crying and they were not telling him anything.”  “The East Coast Bad Boys”
would soon take Larry’s son backstage to tell him his daddy had passed away.

----A few days later Larry Booker was laid to rest as tons of workers showed up at his
funeral in Dyersburg, TN.  Too many to mention all, but it included John Michael,
Christian Jacobs, Dustin Starr, Simon Reed, Seth Knight [who had work as a babyface
tag team with Larry], “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony [who at one time came up with an
angle to be Spot’s bastard son], Jerry Lawler,Bill Dundee and many more.

----This past Saturday night was a low point in wrestling in this area.  CWA, which is ran
by Rodney Grimes, coming off an great past weekend gate, books “The Moondogs” vs
his tag champs “Family of Pain” [Sgt O’Riley/Mickey Ray] in Savannah, TN.  I started
getting calls right after I posted the card featuring the Moondogs on the show.  I then talk
to a few workers that actually worked the card that night early Sunday morning and they
were all pissed.  I was told one of the guys worked as Rex [and this was not Puppy Love
or the guy that worked as a Moondog for two weeks aka The Gravedigger].  I have his
picture below with Larry and his partner was a real skinny guy billing himself as Runt.
Real first name of Rex is Nathan, but I do not know anything else about him.  I was told
they looked horrible with Nathan being real fat and the other guy being a real skinny
“backyarder”.

----I have tried to contact Grimes thru two different e-mail accounts, but no answer from
either one, as I was going to give him a chance to defend why he booked these guys.
Later Sunday night and then early Monday, I had more workers e-mail me and saying
how disrespectful it was them to use the gimmick.  I was told by everyone that the family
of Larry Booker had requested that no one use the “Moondog” gimmick.  The guys that
were working as Moondogs were ask to “fill their dates”, but to let the gimmick die with
Larry.  I do know that Booker was familiar with some of the other Moondogs in the north
[Moondog Morretti used his gimmick forever] and he was not offended by them.  I do
think that Booker would be offended by these guys.

----Best I can tell Moondog Puppy Love continued using the gimmick after Booker’s
death, renaming himself Rex.  Not sure if it was “ok’ed” by the family, but I would not be
as offended for using the gimmick, because he was actually teaming with Larry when he
died.  Rex is currently retired due to heart surgery.  I am working on talking to him
sometime early next week with comments on this situation from him.
