RASSLINRIOTONLINE.COM “THE QUIRKY & INFORMATIVE INTERNET DIRT SHEET” NO BULLSHIT, NO MMA AND NO PUTTING ANYBODY OVER!!!!
Memphis Wrestling TV Report 7.22.06
----Cory Maclin opened the show at the announcer’s desk. The opening was taped without a TV audience. This show was taped last week, so they will splice together clips of Southaven along with “live” matches that were taped last week.
----“Nightmare” Ken Wayne wrestling school commercial aired. If there is anybody in the Memphis area that wants to be trained and trained the right way –then check out Wayne’ s school. And, no he did not pay me to say that. LOL www.nightmarekenwayne.com
----TV interview with Bill Dundee/Derrick King with Jimmy Hart. Angle is that Dundee has a new protégé in King. Dundee mentioned that they didn’t know where Stan [Lee – King’ s “Hot topic” partner] was?? I am not sure where this is going. Dundee/King beat Kevin White/Tatt2 in first fall when Dundee hit Tatt2 with a chain and King pinned him. They put all the heat on Tatt2, but when it was time for a hot tag, Tatt2 just came out of the heat to go for the comeback. Good spots here with DK/Tatt2.
----“Opening The Vault” aired with Dundee/Buddy Landell interview with Dundee slapping Lance Russell. This lead to the famous Texas Death match that went 48 minutes 57 seconds and ended in the 26th fall. The end was genius with Landell on his stomach Dutch fell on his back. After the 10 count, neither could answer the bell. So, the ref said the first one up wins. Landell starts getting up with Mantell on his back, so Mantell reaches his feet first with Lawler/Mantell winning the bout. They even did a pull a part after the bout. Mantell one time told me that they did not know how many falls the bout was going. They knew the finish and went from there.
----Maclin mentions before a clip that Johnny Dotson broke his ankle in Jackson, MS, so he was out of the JR Title match. This is the first mention of Dotson since he broke his ankle. Southaven clip – Mr. America beating Derrick King to win the JR Title. Wow!! This looked like a great bout. They looked to have 4 double-downs building for each doing finishing moves and missing. Lots of near falls, then ending with a simple roll up. Would love to see this entire bout.
----Southaven clip of 2-Ring Battle Royal. The clips started with everyone in the second ring and it showed “Picture Perfect” Chris O’Neal get eliminated. I also caught a glimpse of Neil Taylor. Finish had Rikishi/Brian Christpher/Kimala in the ring. Kishi eliminated Kimala. Then Brian C got the mic to say that they could share the truck. Kishi agree, but then pitched Brian C out for the win.
----Hart even mentions that Tatt2 should have made the tag as they go to the second fall. Dundee slipped trying to get a spinning toe hold on Tatt2. You could see both Dundee/King laughing. Tatt2 shine was good. They continued the heat on Tatt2. Time for a hot tag, but a ref bump. Dundee jumped in with the chain again to hit Tatt2, but White got it. White was using it on Dundee when the ref called for DQ. Heels win two straight falls. Can’t remember that ever happening?? LOL
----Robert Gibson/Brickhouse Brown by DQ over “Wild & Crazy Clowns” [Pokerface/Rude under the hoods] when Poker got caught using the water bucket on Brown. This match was mainly a clusterf**k. They did a reverse that seem to confuse everyone. Brown/Gibson looked sluggish with the Clowns looking like they were about 3 times as fast as the legends. I hate the gimmick, but Poker cracked me up dancing.
----Maclin ended saying that people could get tickets for live TV taping at UPN 30 2701 Union Extended. The crowd for that set of tapings did not even look full. And, the sound was bad during the whole show – you could barely hear the crowd.
----FINAL NOTES – Not a bad show, but no building for nothing new….America vs King clips were worth the time to watch the show…Maclin said while talking about the Texas Death Match – “the match went 26 falls..almost 27 falls..” What??? LOL…Tatt2 has started to improve over the weeks. He is working with people that can follow him into having a good match…Loved the classic clip. Landell/Dundee were such good heels… Still not sold on the Clowns gimmick.
