7.08.06 Memphis Wrestling TV Report
----Show opened with Cory Maclin talking about the big show on July 15, 2006 in
Southaven, MS. Koko Ware came out, but Maclin refused to interview him.
----“Hot Topic” [Derrick King/Stan Lee] come out to commentate during the next bout.
Mr. America/Hillybilly Jethro beat “The Cowboys” [Ricky Murdoch/Bill Nasty] when
America pinned Nasty. King promoted the JR Title Match vs America during the bout and
they had a pushing back & forth after the bout.
----Koko comes out again, but Cory refuses to interview him. Cory then airs a phone
interview from Jimmy Hart. Hart babbled so much I am not sure what he said. Cory came
back to say that Hart would be special ref for his bout with Koko next Saturday. Nate The
Rat come out to say that he would be in Koko’s corner while Koko stood by the dressing
room curtain.
----Pokerface/DK/Lee with Rashad beat Tatt2/Neil Taylor/Bishop Maxwell. Taylor did not
look good here. Tatt2 looked good with a real sweet dropkick from the top rope. They
got the heat on Tatt2 with the crowd chanting his name. Finally, a hot tag to Bishop with
all 6 of them in the ring. DK/Lee finished Bishop off with a great looking finisher – DK
back suplexed Bishop as Lee jumped over the top rope doing a blockbuster.
----Cory talked about the “Boot Camp” from July 12th to July 14th. The cost is $99 and
you get the following – three days training with the stars; 3 days of lunches; camp T-
shirt; duffle bag and free admission to the July 15th event in Southaven.
----Cory was interviewing Bill Dundee when Koko walked out. Dundee interviewed Koko.
Koko ask Cory “Why will you talk to Dundee and not me?? Is it because he is white??
And he later added, “You have disgusted your race Cory. You are a disgrace to your
race!!” Dundee/Koko then totally squashed Drew Donovan/Chris Lexx, including Koko
doing two brainbusters on Donovan.
----Big promo for the Southaven event. All tickets are $10. They announced 7 bouts,
but Cory only gave 6 bouts and no Jerry Lawler?? Here is what was listed – JR Title
Match: King vs America; Special Challenge: Kevin White vs Dundee; Kamala with Jimmy
Hart vs a Mystery Opponent; Southern Tag Team Title Match: “Too Kool 2” [Tim
Grind/Flex] vs Rikishi/Brian Christopher; Final Confirmation – Strap Match – Koko vs
Maclin and Main Event – 2 Ring Triple Chance Battle Royal – Winner To Get Brand New
2007 Truck.
----“Too Cool 2” [Grind/Flex] interview was next. A video interview of Brian Christopher
[remember he is not allowed in the studio for shoot]. Good interview as he explained he
has ask Tim/Flex to quit doing that gimmick, but they keep doing it. So, he is bringing
Rikishi to help him. Flex/Grind beat Jerry Lawler/Kevin White, when White had Flex
pinned, but Dundee interfered hitting White with a chain and Flex pinning White.
----Cory was outside showing off the new truck that the winner of the battle royal will take
home. Koko jumped him. Koko poured syrup on him and then dump a big bag of flour
on him. Koko was yelling, “You wanna be white!?!?”
----They come back from the final commercial break with Cory doing a real good
interview. He came off as legit pissed with flour and syrup all over him. He was kicking
over the desk and running around trying to find Koko.
FINAL NOTES: Good build up so far for the Southaven show. I am expecting a big
Lawler bout to be announced on next Saturday’s show…No mention of Johnny Dotson
breaking his ankle and not being in the JR Title match…Koko/Maclin was a good angle
and set up for the match. BUT, wouldn’t this have been better if Koko was feuding with a
wrestler, instead of the announcer. And, this feud has been going on FOREVER!!!...
Grind did some kind of twisting Liger bomb spinebuster on White during their match. A
little sloppy, but looked nasty…Bishop has some potential…Dundee is at the top of his
game. He seems to be loving this new heel turn…Same goes out to Lawler and
babyface turn.
